The Minnesota Vikings, who haven’t lost a game yet, are playing the New York Jets this week. The game’s happening in London and it’s part of the 2024 NFL season. Everyone’s watching Sam Darnold because he’s been really good this year. He used to play for the Jets, but when asked about his time there, he didn’t say anything bad.
Darnold was questioned if he thought the Jets let him down. “No,” he replied.
He mentioned having many chances in New York and feeling like he could’ve done better. Despite three years with the Jets, where coaching and teammates were often criticized, Darnold admitted some responsibility for his struggles. During his time there, he threw too many interceptions and never managed to throw more than 19 touchdowns or reach over 4,000 passing yards.
After leaving the Jets, Darnold was traded to the Carolina Panthers. Initially, he showed promise by leading in rushing touchdowns early on but eventually ended up on the bench. It seemed like his days as a starting quarterback might be over.
Later on, Darnold joined the San Francisco 49ers as Brock Purdy’s backup before moving to Minnesota. With J.J. McCarthy injured during preseason, Darnold seized the starting role and has excelled, throwing 11 touchdowns against just three interceptions.
When asked about his past with the Jets recently, Darnold chose not to criticize them despite having reasons to be upset. His restraint highlights his character; instead of dwelling on past grievances, he’s focusing on proving himself on the field.
Ultimately, dwelling on past issues wouldn’t benefit him now. He’s moved forward with success alongside Justin Jefferson in Kevin O’Connell’s offense this season. The Vikings-Jets game kicks off at 9:30 a.m. ET on NFL Network.
