Raiding The Trenches – WWI Encounter

Host and Scenario:  Angelo Giordano
Photos and Report:  Frank McGovern

The objective for the Allies was to annihilate the firmly entrenched Germans.   Two waves of Allied troops were obliterated while taking out the German gun and mortar.

The third wave had much better luck with the help of the tanks on the Allied right flank.

The left flank and center of the Allied command were taking heavy casualties while slowly reducing the number of Germans in the trenches.  German machine gun fire was
deadly and devastating.

On the allied right flank the tanks went into action.  One tank was destroyed and two of their number lost tracks via mines but had made it up the rise and had clear shots
firing down the trenches at the enemy.  Giving three tanks a clear shot down the trench line.

The German right flank had taken major casualties through concentrated fire and the remaining three members of a Bavarian unit surrendered.  In the center the Prussian units fought and died to the last man – being mowed down by the guns on the tanks.   It was a very bloody Allied victory.
