Video Game of the Year. What an attention-grabbing title for a book, and what an accomplishment for a game to be titled as such. Jordan Minor, who works as an editor at PCMag, has put out a book that names his favorite games of the year. Overall, I agree with a large percentage of the choices he made. It’s tough to go and narrow things down that much, especially when you are considering arcade games, home console releases, and computer games altogether, which Jordan has done in this book. He covers arcades, starting with Pong, Space Invaders, NBA Jam and more, as well as home consoles and computer games like Wolfenstein 3D and The Secret of Monkey Island. He also gives them subtitles like “Third Party Game of the Year,” like Pitfall received in 1982. As an example, he gives five pages to Pitfall, the David Crane release that was the first major title produced by a company, in this case, Activision, for release on someone else’s console, …
