I haven’t posted in a while, because I’ve been busy making minis! And other things. I am in our summer house, and in June started a new online class with June Clinkscales.
She called the project L’epoque de la lumiere, or the “age of light.” It’s a shallow box with a window scene and a glimpse down a hall. The walls are resin, the fireplace 3D printed (3D printing has come a long way), and the rest wood, plexiglass, paper, LED lights, and a lot of painting, finishing, aging, and gluing.
I did paint every single one of the squares on the floor. Then aged it and finished with many coats of satin wood finish.
It’s a little hard to see down the hall but the fireplace is very pretty and detailed. It’s 3D printed, and I did all the painting. Some people marbleized theirs, and they look great.
The frame is simple wooden molding mitered to make a square frame. I painted it white and gold. It’s hinged, with a small magnet to keep the door closed.
I have furniture for this at my other house, and one day they’ll get together.
This was a lot of work, but it’s beautiful.
If you want to take a class with June, the best way is to try to get into one of her classes at a show–she usually teaches at Chicago International in April and at the Good Sam Showcase of Miniatures in October. Once you’re on her mailing list, then you get notified of the online classes.
I’ve taken four of her classes now. (Lit du Creneau. La Chambre Bleu, Bijou, and this one). They can be pricy, but worth it. She provides everything (including the lighting), except your paint, glue, and most finishing products. I have learned so much.
For my next project, I’m doing a 1/4″ kit from True2Scale (kit is called Blossom). It’s an artist’s cottage with garden, and adorable. I’ll post those pics then I’m done.
