Jayden Daniels is having an exciting first year with the Washington Commanders, and it’s a lot like what C.J. Stroud did with the Texans last year. It’s not fair to compare them directly, but there’s a strong sense of déjà vu in the air.
Being the second quarterback picked in the draft makes you wonder what teams might be missing out on. Caleb Williams is doing great too, but it’s curious how both Stroud and Daniels were chosen second in their drafts.
Last season, there was serious talk about Stroud making it into the MVP conversation, and rightly so. If Daniels gets his third win over an AFC North team this season, it could spark similar discussions about his place among the league’s elite.
However, it’s still early days. The match against Baltimore will be a good test for Daniels and the Commanders’ offense, but one game won’t decide if he’s in the MVP race. We need to see more consistent performances from him.
Could Jayden Daniels become just the second rookie ever to win NFL MVP? It’s a long shot, but considering how Stroud was seriously considered last year, maybe it’s time to think of Daniels as a potential nominee for this prestigious award.
This season, Daniels has shown why he’s such a threat on the field. He’s averaging 227 passing yards and 60 rushing yards per game, along with eight total touchdowns split equally between passing and rushing.
His accuracy stands out too. Against Cleveland, he had his lowest completion rate at 56 percent. But before that, he showed impressive numbers: 70.9 percent against Tampa Bay, 79.3 percent versus the New York Giants, 91.3 percent against Cincinnati Bengals, and 86.7 percent when facing Arizona Cardinals.
This demonstrates his calmness under pressure. While many rookie quarterbacks tend to force plays, especially dual-threat ones like him, Daniels lets the game flow naturally without taking unnecessary risks.
Having Kliff Kingsbury as his offensive coordinator helps too—Kingsbury has spent years honing Kyler Murray into an NFL quarterback. Since Week 1, Daniels has led the Commanders to four consecutive victories over teams like Bengals and Browns.
But he’s not guaranteed anything yet! With Patrick Mahomes keeping Kansas City undefeated despite losing key players weekly; Sam Darnold reviving his career in Minnesota; plus Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry also vying for MVP consideration—competition remains fierce!
Daniels winning NFL MVP is quite unlikely; however if he continues dazzling defenses throughout this season—it might just happen!
